AMJAD ALI KHAN - Masterpieces for Sarod and Violin
Amjad Ali Khan (Composer and Sarod)
Elmira Darvarova (Violin)
Amaan Ali Bangash (Sarod)
Ayaan Ali Bangash (Sarod)
Affetto Records (Distributed by Naxos)
This double\-album presents Amjad Ali Khan’s compositions for Sarod and Violin as a collection comprising the works previously premiered in three separate albums. The recordings included in this collection represent the culmination of a collaboration that came about through a serendipitous meeting of the artists in 2014 – Amjad Ali Khan, the Titan of the Sarod, straddling two centuries, universally venerated as one of the greatest living Indian musicians in any genre; his sons, disciples and widely acclaimed Sarod virtuosi in their own right, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash; and the distinguished American violinist Elmira Darvarova, herself a historical figure as the first ever (and so far only) woman\-concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York. The first fruit of these artists’ unique joining of forces was their album, SOUL STRINGS, a bridge across which their respective traditions, coming from Indian Classical and Western Art Music genres, were generously shared, each with its expressive and technical integrity intact, rather than squeezed into that oft\-used and abused notion of “fusion.” What that first album suggested subtly, about this daring, supercharged, yet profoundly respectful and even affectionate meeting of musical minds, was later brilliantly confirmed by their second album AMALGAM, which included the inimitable sound of the universally beloved and venerated elder statesman of Indian Classical Music today – Amjad Ali Khan. Drawing on the North and South Indian classical music idioms, AMALGAM not only featured new works but also explored new aesthetic and rhetorical terrain both in terms of the intimate level of phrase and note, as well as at the larger architectonic and structural aspects of the music. The artists offered their third album PEACE WORSHIPERS as a final volume of their trilogy, again with new compositions for Sarod and Violin by Amjad Ali Khan.
Amjad Ali Khan and Joe Walsh present a spiritually infused three-song EP which is an offering for the widespread human suffering releasing on June 4 on Universal Music.
As a mark of gratitude and support to the doctors, nurses and front line workers, this East meets West collaboration carries the message of peace, love and hope. Along with Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, they are joined by several iconic Los Angeles-based musicians; drummers Stewart Copeland (of the Police) and Jim Keltner, bassists Nathan East, Leland Sklar and Abe Laboriel Sr., keyboardist Ed Roth, guitarists Davey Johnstone (Elton John’s longtime lead guitarist) and multi-instrumentalist Joe Vitale, with whom Joe Walsh has been a bandmate.
Wigmore Hall appoints nine new Associate Artists and announces new partnership with the African Concert Series
Taking as inspiration Wigmore Hall’s illustrious history, as well as seismic events since the outbreak of the pandemic last spring, the Hall’s 120th Anniversary is headlined by Director John Gilhooly's appointment of nine new Associate Artists, who are Amjad Ali Khan (sarod), Amaan Ali Bangash (sarod), Ayaan Ali Bangash (sarod), Lawrence Power (viola), Gweneth Ann Rand (soprano), Trish Clowes (saxophone), Elaine Mitchener (vocal and movement artist), Christian McBride (jazz bass) and Nitin Sawhney (composer/performer). Wigmore Hall has committed to five-year relationships with each Associate Artist, presenting each musician at least once every season. Also joining Wigmore Hall’s family of partners at John Gilhooly’s invitation is the African Concert Series spearheaded by the Nigerian-Romanian pianist Rebeca Omordia. The series reflects the depth and diversity of African art music, a rich genre which forms a bridge between Western classical music and traditional African music.

KORK i Store studio - Amjad Ali Khan
Amjad Ali Khan: Samaagam - Sarod Concerto Ludwig van Beethoven: Prometheus, ballettmusikk
Et sensasjonelt møte mellom KORK, indisk klassisk musikk og en av verdens største
musikalske stjerner i Store studio.
Her flyter forskjellige to musikkulturer sammen i 12

Peace Worshippers Amjad Ali Khan, Elmira Darvarova, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash
Peace Worshippers represents the culmination of a collaboration between Amjad Ali Khan, the Titan of the sarod, straddling two centuries, universally venerated as one of the greatest living Indian musicians in any genre; his sons, disciples and widely acclaimed sarod virtuosi in their own right, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash; and the distinguished American violinist Elmira Darvarova, herself a historical figure as the first woman concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York. This recording emerges from Amjad Ali Khan's deep and long abiding commitment to peace and tolerance both in the larger world as well as in the smaller communities of city, neighborhood, and the circles of family and friends - a commitment which has taken him to the United Nations and the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in Oslo as well as the greatest concert halls and performing venues around the world. This album is the fruit of an approach that these artists have championed in their trilogy of collaborative recordings, Soul Strings, then Amalgam and now Peace Worshipers - boldly sharing their respective traditions and genres with each other while keeping the integrity and character of those traditions intact and exploring the idiom and styles of the other with fearless, ferocious energy and generous enthusiasm. In this final volume, alongside the compositions of Amja Ali Khan, are works from regional folk traditions in India and Europe. Released by Naxos on Affetto Records.

AMALGAM
Amalgam is a follow-up on the highly acclaimed album "Soul Strings" released in September of 2015, in which sarod virtuoso Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash joined forces with American classical violinist Elmira Darvarova to create a unique collaboration, a bridge between their respective musical traditions which were carried whole and un-compromised. Amalgam brilliantly confirms this daring, supercharged, yet profoundly respectful and even affectionate meeting of these musical minds, made all the more profound by the inclusion of Amjad Ali Khan, the father of featured sarod virtuosos Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, universally beloved and venerated elder statesman not only of the Sarod, but also for the larger world of Indian Classical Music today, and composer of the classical Indian ragas featured on this album as well as "Soul Strings." In addition, "Amalgam" features a solo work composed and performed by Grammy-nominated violinist Elmira Darvarova, powerfully informed by the folk traditions of her own Bulgarian roots. Amalgam brings new meaning and a redefinition to the description "World Music" as it crosses and joins classical genres of the east and west with brilliant musicianship in world premiere performances.
